Searching Jackson County Civil Dockets
Missouri Case.net is where most people start a civil docket search in Jackson County. You can search by litigant name, case number, filing date, or a scheduled hearing. A case number from a summons, notice, or prior docket works best. Name searching takes more care. Apply the Jackson County, 16th Judicial Circuit filter. Then check the case style, filing date, court location, and division before opening any result.
Each tab answers a different question. Case Header lists the main identifiers, and Parties & Attorneys separates out the procedural roles. Docket Entries is the date-ordered register itself. Service Information, Filings Due, Civil Judgments, Garnishments/Execution, and Scheduled Hearings & Trials can add useful context. Remember that a public result identifies a case. It is not the complete file and not a clerk-certified copy.
- Select a Case.net search method and narrow the jurisdiction to Jackson County, 16th Judicial Circuit.
- Search by the full case number where available, or start with the last name and add the first name if needed.
- Open the case result and confirm the case style, filing date, division, and status.
- Read Docket Entries from earliest to latest, then check service, judgment, and hearing tabs where present.
- Use the Civil Records copy route when a plain, certified, authenticated, or archived copy is needed.

Inside a Jackson County Civil Docket
A Jackson County civil docket is a chronology, not a verdict on who should win. It tells you what happened and when. A public Case.net view can include the case number, court and division, style, case type, status, party roles, counsel, service events, filings due, motion entries, notices of setting, orders, judgments, satisfaction or vacatur information, and any appeal or linked case. A blue entry may lead to a public document. A lock icon marks a security boundary.
| Case Header | Case number, filing date, court location, division, style, case type, and status. |
|---|---|
| Parties and counsel | Procedural roles such as plaintiff, petitioner, defendant, respondent, intervenor, or garnishee and the listed counsel. |
| Docket Entries | Filed pleadings, service, motions, notices, hearings, continuances, orders, judgments, and later events. |
| Service Information | Events about summons or return; an issued summons alone does not prove service. |
| Civil Judgments | Judgment party, date, amount, satisfaction or vacatur data, and summary information where public. |
| Garnishments/Execution | Post-judgment action that may appear after the court records a judgment. |
Read the whole sequence, not just one line. A Petition Filed or Answer Filed entry is a procedural event, never a judgment. The latest signed order and the current setting matter more than an older calendar reference.
Jackson County Civil Docket Service Paths
Case.net and Civil Process answer different questions about service. The docket's Service Information tab records public case events, such as a summons, citation, return, or service entry. Civil Process does the operational service work itself. For small-claims matters, the court tells users to check Case.net for service at least one week before court. Its Civil Process inquiry route lists (816) 881-3644.
| Source | What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Case.net docket | Issued summons, return, hearing, or order entries | Shows the public case-register trail. |
| Service Information | Service status fields and returns | Separates service events from the main chronology. |
| Civil Process | Current operational service inquiry | Helps route a service-status question to the proper department. |
Local Division 34 guidance sets a filing deadline for summons service. Proof of service must reach Civil Records three days before the assigned court date under Local Rule 63.1. When local instructions differ, the assigned division's current notice controls.
Civil Case Types on the Docket
Civil Records keeps docketed matters across both Circuit and Associate Circuit divisions. The 2025 court report sorts civil filings into categories: personal-injury claims, breach-of-contract cases, foreign-judgment registration, declaratory-judgment matters, other tort actions, suit-on-account cases, quiet-title cases, small claims, domestic matters, protection orders, executions, and garnishments. A category names the kind of filing. It does not reveal how any case ended.
- Personal-injury and other tort claims
- Breach-of-contract and suit-on-account filings
- Foreign-judgment registration and declaratory-judgment matters
- Property-title and related civil actions
- Small claims, domestic, and protection-order matters where public
Some civil entries stay limited because of a seal, a court order, or a confidential category. A public docket index does not put every supporting document online.
Jackson County Civil Filing Mix
The 2025 annual statistical report counted 4,491 Circuit civil filings. Personal injury-vehicular filings led the Circuit categories at 754. Breach-of-contract filings came next at 567. Those figures describe the reported system-wide mix, not a delay estimate or an outcome for any individual civil docket.
Associate civil filings appear separately in the report. That split in court structure is real. Before reading any docket entry, note the court, division, and case type shown in Case Header.
Civil Docket Settings and Hearings
Civil settings come in many forms. Motion hearings, case-management or status events, settlement or trial settings, domestic docket events, and post-judgment matters all appear here. A Notice of Setting, a continuance, a reset, and a Hearing Held entry each do different work in the register. Compare the current Case.net Scheduled Hearings & Trials result with the newest docket event. Also check any order or notice from the assigned division.
The 16th Circuit also publishes a monthly calendar of broad court events. Use it for the wide view. Then verify the individual matter through the docket or division. The Jackson County Court Dates reference explains how Case.net settings, calendar listings, clerk contacts, and notices fit together. Note: A changed setting is not a ruling on the case. A calendar listing alone never replaces a signed order or case-specific notice.
Jackson County Civil Copy Choices
One form handles every copy type in Jackson County Civil Records. The copy-request form covers plain, certified, authenticated, and archived copies alike. You will need to supply contact information. Add the case number and the case style or parties. It also asks for a document or docket description, a date range, your copy choice, return preference, payment authorization, and any special instructions. A legal file request has one extra step. Attach the docket sheet and highlight the documents you want.
| Copy type | Published amount | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Civil Records copy | $0.30 per page | Plain copy of a requested record. |
| Certified copy | $4.00 per document plus copy fee | Clerk-certified document copy. |
| Authenticated copy | $6.00 per document plus copy fee | Authenticated document copy. |
| Microfilm or archived copy | $5.00 first page, $0.50 each additional page | Older or archived material. |
Pay first, then pick up or receive your copies. In person, the form accepts money order, cashier's check, credit card, or cash; mailed requests must use money order or cashier's check. Leave the personal checkbook at home. The court's Civil Records fees page posts the current fee amounts and its service-fee notice for Jackson County copy work.
Those copy categories explain why a screen view of a Jackson County docket is not a certified court record.
Jackson County Civil Docket Documents
A Jackson County civil docket and the filings behind it are two different layers of the court record. The register lists actions in date order. A petition, exhibit, signed order, or judgment is a separate filed item. An on-screen docket entry in Jackson County can tell you a document exists. It may offer no remote access to it. A blue link may open a public item; a lock icon marks a security boundary.
Work from the docket description and date to name the document. Then ask Civil Records for the current copy route. Any legal file request should include the docket sheet. Highlight the sought documents on it, just as the form directs. The Jackson County public terminal helps when a public document is not exposed remotely. And remember that a certified judgment comes only through the copy process, never a screen print.
Civil Docket Access Rules
Online civil docket access in Jackson County starts with Case.net. A courthouse public-access terminal reaches statewide public cases and documents that are not remotely exposed. Civil Records counters in Kansas City and Independence offer the in-person route. The copy desks answer records-routing questions by phone. A completed copy form can be mailed under its current instructions. The department directory lists fax or email contact paths where they exist. Send a written Sunshine request to the responsible court department, not a generic county office.
Filers submit electronically through the Missouri Courts eFiling System and Show Me Courts. Public records filed on or after July 1, 2023 may appear as blue linked docket entries. A lock icon marks secure material. A sealed case may require a party's in-person photo identification. When the Civil Records process calls for it, use GN318, the Application to Inspect Confidential Court Records.
Access boundaries: RSMo §610.023 sets the custodian’s public-record response duty, while RSMo §610.026 limits applicable copy, search, research, and duplication charges.
Court Operating Rule 4 distinguishes the broader official court record from a public web display and preserves restrictions for confidential records.
The 16th Circuit's eFiling information explains secure Case.net access and where the lock-icon boundary sits for public documents.
The distinction matters in practice. A public docket entry, an electronically filed document, and a secure record each take a different access path.
